LEE COUNTY ROLLS OUT NEW MENTAL HEALTH INITIATVES
LEE COUNTY, NC – October 3, 2023 – Lee County Government is pleased to announce the RENEW LEE COUNTY Program, which stands for “Resources for Eliminating barriers, creating New Beginnings, and providing Education for an enhanced Well-being.”
As part of the RENEW program, the County is launching its Health and Well-Being Initiative. This initiative will continue the County’s work to create an environment that promotes physical and mental health and well-being in our community in accordance with Lee County’s Strategic Plan.
On October 2, 2023, the Lee County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the Lee County’s Health and Well-being Initiative, which will be financed with revenue loss monies from the Coronavirus American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
Lee County Government recognizes that many residents need assistance to help improve both their physical and mental health. As such, the Board of Commissioners has approved the use of $500,000.00 of ARPA funds to be used in the Health and Well-Being Initiative to enhance mental health services to our community residents. Of this amount, $250,000.00 will be allocated for use for contracted services through the new Lee County Community Social Worker. The remaining $250,000.00 will be allocated for reimbursement services, which are provided by non-profits. This reimbursement fund program will be open to approved community non-profit providers in Lee County that currently provide supportive and treatment services to individuals in Lee County that have mental health needs.
The County will be hosting an informational and training session for interested non-profits and any public attendees on October 6, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the Buggy Conference Room located at 115 Chatham Street, Sanford, NC.
