MISSION STATEMENT


The Lee County Animal Shelter is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of its people and pets. Our mission is to temporarily house unwanted animals and aid in the rehoming process, as well as educate and provide resources to our public about Lee County Animal Ordinances and NC Animal Laws.

Goals
  • Collaborate with the Lee County Sheriff Office to assist in handling rabies investigations
  • Educate about pet overpopulation and promote spaying and neutering
  • Provide resources for low-cost veterinary care
  • Promote adoptions through our shelter and seek animal rescues to partner with us
Services
  • Adopt to the public
  • Take in Lee County Residents’ owner surrendered dogs and cats
  • House stray cats and dogs found in Lee County
  • Euthanasia by request- (FEE INCREASE IN EFFECT JULY 1, 2024)
  • Provide one-year rabies vaccinations

ALL services require an appointment.
Appointments are available Monday through Friday (exceptions for observed holidays) from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm on the half hour. No weekend appointments.

Between 10:00 am and 4:00pm on the following Saturdays animals will be available for adoption or rescue on a first come first serve basis, no appointments necessary. No animal intake during these hours, they are reserved for adoption/rescue/reclaim. 

  • January 27th, February 24th, March 23rd, April 27th, May 25th, June 29th, July 27th, August 31st, September 28th, October 26th, November 30th, December 21st.  
  • *Adoption process requires completion of our Adoption Contract. This requires your Veterinary Office’s signature/letter head verifying the new pet’s first appointment. If your Vet Office is closed on Saturday, you must bring a printed receipt from them showing you have prepaid a minimum of $50 toward the required services and have secured the first wellness appointment for a new pet.*
In addition to the webpage, stray animals are available for viewing for reclaim purposes from 12:00pm - 4:00pm, Monday-Wednesday.
