TarHeel League

LEE COUNTY, NC — March 13, 2023 — Lee County Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that the department has decided to sanction with Tar Heel Leagues Inc., for County baseball and softball programs starting this spring.

Tar Heel Leagues, Inc. is an organization that provides local, district, and state competition for youth baseball and softball recreation level teams throughout North Carolina. Lee County will be joining District 3, which involves surrounding counties such as Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Chatham and more.

Also, as a participating member, Tar Heel Leagues, Inc. annually offers a minimum of four (4) $1,000 college scholarships to persons who have been involved in Tar Heel Leagues, Inc. either as a player, coach, or as the child of a parent who is/was a coach, umpire, or administrator.

With the increase in the County’s baseball and softball program participation numbers, there is no better time than now to make this move to Tar Heel League.

“What I like most about joining this organization is that their goals and vision align with what we are trying to accomplish here in Lee County, which is to teach the youth of the community ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect, so they may be finer, stronger and happier youth who will grow to be good, clean, healthy adults,” Recreation Superintendent Brandon Harris said.

For questions regarding Tar Heel Leagues Inc., please contact the Parks and Recreation department at 919-775-2107. Media inquiries may be directed to Hailey Hall, Clerk to the Board/Communications Specialist, at (919) 718-4605 or hhall@leecountync.gov.
