LEE COUNTY, NC – June 21, 2024 – Lee County is excited to announce that Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications) was selected by the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) to expand Broadband infrastructure in Lee County.

NCDIT announced the Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) grant award winners Monday, June 17, and identified Spectrum as the premier candidate to provide the residents of Lee County with additional Broadband infrastructure. This $4.3 million project expects to serve 1,114 locations once the project is completed.

During Monday’s announcement, Governor Roy Cooper said, “through these awards, more North Carolinians will be able to access affordable and reliable high-speed internet so they can participate in our increasingly digital world.”

This map depicts the locations of where Spectrum anticipates expanding Broadband within Lee County, which were selected by the Broadband committee made up of NC DIT and NC DIT Broadband employees and County staff. This current Broadband grant deployment was not chosen based on priority of any particular area of the County, but of an area that covered the most locations, which allowed the grant funds to be stretched as far as possible.

The County realizes that this Broadband deployment grant only covers a certain area of our community and wants residents to know that Broadband expansion continues to be a priority until every address in the County can be supplied with Broadband connectivity.

In the meantime, please visit the NC Division of Broadband and Digital Equity website at  https://www.ncbroadband.gov/surveys/north-carolina-broadband-survey and take the Broadband survey as soon as possible. This survey is the best tool to inform the State of the status of Broadband at your home or residence and will yield critical information about your Broadband status. The County hopes that the Broadband survey results lead to additional Broadband expansion in our area depending on grant funding availability.
