Social Worker II - Child Protective Services Prevention/Education/Intake

Duties/Responsibilities: This position provides prevention and education services to families who are either mandated to work with Child Protective Services or are doing so on a voluntary basis. This is done via parenting education classes and case planning/management; coordination of services for the families through multiple community resources and professionals; providing back-up coverage for CPS intake calls; and provision of support services/activities needed for the unit. The position would independently perform assessments to identify needs and establish appropriate service plan goals and may provide supportive/directive counseling to clients and families in addressing identified needs. In some settings, behavioral approaches are used to maximize client involvement. This position would assume a case manager role to follow the client through agency and external services. Clients present to this position with a broad range of service needs. Regardless of the setting, the position has to make accurate assessments/evaluations and use analysis and judgment to develop an appropriate service plan. The position will utilize knowledge of a range of services and of supportive level counseling and other counseling techniques to provide services to clients. Direct client interactions, services development, and referrals are documented in accordance with agency requirements and court requirement. This position requires occasional court testimony.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems. Knowledge of psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of a client's problem. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative members of case load and their families, and with civics, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and  concisely and to plan and execute work.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employees may be called upon in case of disaster, either natural or man-made; to serve the citizens of Lee County. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position vacancy announcement.
