Librarian II- Cataloger

DEFINITION OF WORK
The Cataloging Librarian II performs original and copy cataloging based on current NC Cardinal and North Carolina State Library Standards. This position supervises the cataloging department by providing training and support for patrons and staff. Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Library Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for and supervises library cataloging operations, including bib cataloging and workflows in the cataloging department; This position supervises and trains staff performing copy cataloging and physical materials processing; Maintains quality control of records in the Integrated Library System (ILS) shared by members of the NC Cardinal Consortium; Stays abreast of current standards and rules to ensure library patrons and staff are able to efficiently locate materials; Classifies library materials and keeps records up-to-date and accurate; Works with NC Cardinal cataloging committee to ensure bibliographic record accuracy and to resolve database and access issues; Well versed in the various online library resources and able to train staff and patrons in their use; Assists patrons in use of public access catalog, databases, Internet, genealogical, and other library resources; Seeks out grant opportunities for library services and assists in the management of grant applications and reports; Provides general library services at circulation desk; registers patrons; checks in and out books and other materials; empties book drop, re-shelves books and materials; shelf reads and straightens shelves, etc. when needed; Works as part of team in all aspects of the job duties as well as independently on tasks. Must be able to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently; Attends annual professional meetings, biennial NCLA conventions, and workshops; Other duties as assigned by the Director.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree from a school of library or information science program accredited by the American Library Association in library science, and minimum of one (1) year of public library supervisory experience in public library operations or programming. Strong technology background, excellent customer service skills required. Experience with Evergreen ILS preferred. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
North Carolina Public librarian certification within six (6) months. Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
