Elections Public Information Coordinator/Elections Assistant
General Definition of Work:
Performs administrative and technical support for the Board of Elections office. The employee’s primary responsibility is to fill public information requests by the public. They will be responsible for tracking completion times and costs, redacting, and sending requests for approval by the Director/ Local Board of Elections/ State Board of Elections and/or County Administration as required before releasing information. Responsible for overseeing Retention Records Schedule as set forth by the NC State Board of Elections and County of Lee. This employee will assist in communications and community outreach. They will directly assist in testing, and preparation of election equipment under guidance of Election Technology Engineer; provide quality customer service. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Elections.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong multi-tasking skills; Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; Some knowledge of county and department programs and policies preferred; ability to read and understand basic state policies and procedures and clearly explain those policies and procedures to others; ability to communicate with legal counsel and State Board of Elections counsel and administration; ability to type accurately and at minimum speed of 45 wpm; Proficient with Microsoft Suite and Adobe; website design a plus; ability to operate both standard and complex office and computer equipment; ability to work in a political environment in a non-partisan manner at all times; ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Elections, elected officials, media, associates, and the general public. Ideal candidate will be high energy, demonstrating a great customer service attitude, and will be dedicated to protecting and promoting a fair and accurate elections process for the citizens of Lee County.
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree with coursework in business, computer science, paralegal or related field and at least three years experience working in an office setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Elections or paralegal experience preferred.
