Library Assistant II – Programming
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Library Assistant II position is a journey level classification in the Library Assistant series. The Library Assistant II - Programming, under the general supervision of the Library Programming Team and the Library Director, assists in the operation and supervision of a library service or department and performs related work as required.
Essential Functions:
This position requires exemplary customer service skills and a commitment to outstanding service. Assists in a specific service or department of the library as designated. Tracks inventory levels on supplies and materials required to perform work. May train and assign work to assigned volunteers. Will be trained and scheduled to assist at the circulation desk as needed. Under direct supervision of Library Programming Team. Assist Librarians with programming activities, events, and workshops as needed. Assists with library projects to promote and engage community in programs and events including but not limited to creating social media posts, posters, flyers, newsletters, press releases, etc. May facilitate programs or organize events independently.
Additional Functions:
Performs circulation desk duties including but not limited to answering phones, assisting patrons, creating library card accounts, checking in and out materials, placing holds, collecting fines. Assists patrons with faxes, copies, retrieves prints and performs basic computer support as requested. Assists patrons with basic reference and research referring to appropriate staff member as needed.
Aids patrons in direction of library materials and in-house and online resources. Shelves, shelf reads and keeps the library organized and user-friendly including maintaining library exhibits and displays as requested. Guides pages, volunteers and interns as directed by supervisor. Performs custodial duties as necessary. Maintain public safety and security by enforcing the library’s code of conduct.

Education and Experience:
Public Library experience with an Associates/Technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
