Maintenance Worker

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
An employee in this class performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and construction of County facilities, parks and recreational buildings, grounds and equipment. Essential functions of the position include: operation of small trucks, dump trucks, tractors, back hoe, commercial lawn mowers (riding), weed eaters and ballfield preparation equipment; performs clean up in and around facilities and grounds; helps to clear land for new construction using both hand and power tools; mows, drags lines and maintains ballfields as well as maintaining gym floors for recreational play; performs landscaping duties such as planting, pruning, mowing and spraying pesticides and chemicals under supervision of authorized person; and limited supervision of community service workers, summer workers and 2-inmate crews. Physical demand requirements are those for very heavy work.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Two years experience in the maintenance trade field with some experience in the operation of medium sized equipment preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License.
