Deputy Director of Library Services

Lee County seeks a Deputy Director of Library Services. Work involves planning, organizing, and directing programs and services as well as ensuring that strategic goals and objectives are achieved within the library programs, collections and patron services. Performs skilled administrative work preparing required and requested reports and schedules for distribution, assisting with various events or programs at the library, creating budget paperwork, and maintaining various written publications and reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Researches, implements, and maintains technologies in the library system. This position helps create and sustain accessible solutions to the communities’ needs and promotes awareness of library resources.

Delegates specific library operations, duties and responsibilities to appropriate staff and supervises their performance.
Provides supervision and guidance to library staff to ensure Library objectives and goals meet the ongoing and changing needs of community members.
Effectively advocates for the library by explaining services, programs, policies, and procedures to the community at large.
Collaborates with the Library staff to create, recommend, facilitate, and assess new and ongoing programs and services.
Directly responsibility of management of library staff, volunteers and interns in the absence of the Library Director.
Assists with hiring, training and managing department personnel; evaluates job performance and completes performance appraisals on staff supervised.
Assists with applying for and administering grant funds and grant programs.
Participates on the purchasing committee to assist with collection development and inventory maintenance.
Participates in the preparation and management of the annual operating budget including monitoring current year expenditures and coordinating internal departmental proposals for the next fiscal year.
Establishes, maintains and represents the library on various civic and community groups and with the public including but not limited to public/private schools, daycares, homeschool groups, local interest groups and area businesses.
Attend annual professional meetings, biennial NCLA conventions, and workshops.
Contributes and adds website content, newsletter articles, calendar events, and media publicity. 
Able to perform skilled administrative work preparing required and requested reports and schedules for distribution, working with budget documents/systems, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work as part of team in all aspects of the job duties as well as independently on tasks. Must be able to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently.

Master's degree from a school of library or information science program accredited by the American Library Association in library science, and minimum of three (3) years of public library supervisory experience in the administration and management of public library operations, personnel and programs. Strong technology background, excellent customer service skills required. Experience with Evergreen ILS preferred.

North Carolina Public librarian certification within six (6) months.
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
