Development Services Director

Lee County seeks an innovative solutions-oriented professional to join our team as Development Services Director. The preferred candidate will perform complex professional work for the county. This position plans, organizes, and manages various projects from design to construction, generating and/or reviewing plans and specifications, obtaining and providing technical information to the County Manager and Board of Commissioners and others as needed, preparing and maintaining files, reports and records, and related work as apparent or assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Makes all preparations necessary to facilitate the successful implementation of county projects.

Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors and evaluates local government projects and programs.

Reviews all construction, consultant and engineering contract award or agreement recommendations; ensures contracts are administered in accordance with federal, date, and local requirements; approve contract changes or reviews and recommends changes prior to approval at a higher level.

Manages multiple development projects simultaneously ensuring that each project is given proper attention to ensure its satisfactory completion.

Defines tasks necessary to successfully complete local government projects; develops and implements schedules for performing those tasks.

Assist in the develop and maintenance of the five-year capital improvement plan, working with department heads to develop facility maintenance and future facility projects.

Coordinates administrative issues and problems with regulatory agencies; and responds to public inquiries regarding County programs and services.

Conducts meetings with local, state and federal officials as needed.

Attends and represents the county at various meeting and speaking engagements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in public administration, or related field and considerable experience in increasingly responsible local government management, or, a master’s degree in public administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to think analytically to prioritize work, make data driven decisions, meet established deadlines, delegate duties and attend to details as appropriate.

Capacity to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships with County Management, Board of Commissioners, other county departments, advisory boards and committees, partner municipalities, state and federal regulatory agencies and institutions, vendors, and consultants.

Impeccable judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions and the ability to carry out that judgment with considerable professional discretion.

Exceptional organizational and time management skills, accompanied by a strong capability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.

Familiarity with the organization and functions of County government.

Excellent communication, both written and oral.

Adaptability in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with changing job requirements and duties as they occur.

Strong creative, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
