Please read prior to submitting an online payment regarding mandatory convenience fees to pay online:

North Carolina law does not have a provision to allow local governments to absorb the cost of paying a bill online.  Please be aware that you will incur a convenience fee if you proceed to pay with a credit/debit/E-check.

We have contracted with PayIt to provide this service for our citizens.  The convenience fee is charged by PayIt. Lee County Government does not receive any portion of the fees charged.  

The convenience fee will vary based on the current amount of the tax due and the form of payment used.  For credit card users, the fee is based on a percentage of the total amount due.

It is certainly not Lee County Government’s desire to increase the cost of paying taxes.  If you find the convenience fee to be unacceptable, you may still mail your payment to the Tax Office or pay in person during our normal business hours.

You will be notified of the convenience fee prior to completing the payment.  After you have received the final calculations, you will have the option to cancel the process.

Please be aware, even after you receive an initial receipt, it may take up to 3 business days for your online payment to be completely processed.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your payment was in fact processed.

The convenience fee schedule is as follows:

PayIt Customer Transaction Fee

  • Credit/Debit Card: $2.00 per Payment **
  • ACH: $2.00 per Payment **
  • Point of Sale: N/A **

* a Transaction is defined as the payment of all or a portion of an individual bill paid by the Customer. For clarity, Customers are not charged for looking up information, receiving reminders, scheduling payments, or anything other than paying.

PayIt Customer Payment Processing Fees - Fees for Payment Processing are dependent upon the form of payment, and are charged to the customer as follows:

  • Credit/Debit: (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express) 1.85% of transaction
  • ACH: $1.25 per Payment **
  • Point-of-Sale: (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express) 1.85% of transaction

** a Payment is defined as the single Payment by the Customer. For clarity, a Payment can include one or multiple Transactions (ex. if a Customer is paying 2 bills at the same time, that would be 1 Payment, 2 Transactions).

By proceeding in making your payment you are agreeing to the above terms.

Payments for Discoveries, Rollbacks, or Schedule B can be made within the PayIt site.


You may pay your Personal Property, Real Estate, and Vehicle taxes by accessing the links above. Accepted forms of payment are Credit Card or E-Check. In addition, you may also use the Online Bill Inquiry to find out what your tax payment balance currently is.
