Endor Iron Furnace

ENDOR IRON FURNACE
The Endor Iron Furnace near the community of Cumnock, NC (near Sanford in Lee County) was in use from the early 1860's until 1874 and was a pig iron furnace. This structure is one of the oldest and most significant extant structures in Lee County. In 2001, The furnace and a 426-acre surrounding property were transferred to the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources with the assistance of Triangle Land Conservancy. The site will be developed as a nature preserve and park, and the furnace may be eventually restored.
