PARKS AND RECREATION SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT FOR A COMPREHENSIVE PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN

LEE COUNTY, NC – June 4, 2021 -  Lee County Parks and Recreation will be hosting two public input sessions for a Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The first session will take place on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at O.T. Sloan Park located at 1420 Bragg Street, Sanford, NC. The second input session will take place on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kiwanis Family Park located at 1800 Wicker Street, Sanford, NC.

The purpose of the Comprehensive Master Plan is to develop a 10-year plan outlining specific goals and identified needs based on assessment and input related to recreational programs, parks, and staffing operations. Public input is critical to aligning the Comprehensive Master Plan with what the community would like to see in the future. The County has hired Alfred Benesch & Company with over 50 years of experience in the area of large scale planning to develop the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

In 2018, the County hired WithersRavenel to conduct Site Specific Master Plans to identify and design improvements at O.T. Sloan, Kiwanis Children’s, Temple, and Horton Parks. The improvements resulting from the Site Specific Plans are currently underway.

The completion of the Comprehensive Master Plan will open the door to future opportunities including providing eligibility for grant opportunities such as the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF).
