LEE COUNTY, NC – April 16, 2021 – Lee County Government (LCG) Health Department announced that due to a significant drop in demand, the department will transition away from weekly mass drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination clinics. The department will hold two additional first-dose COVID-19 drive-thru vaccination clinics on Tuesday, April 20th and Wednesday, April 21st from 9 AM until 1 PM at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center in Sanford. Drive-thru clinics for second-dose vaccines only will continue at the Civic Center April 27th, April 28th, May 4th and May 11th from 9 AM until 1 PM.
The Health Department will continue to provide first-dose vaccines to interested residents after April 21st by appointment only at the Lee County Health Clinic located in the Government Center at 106 Hillcrest Drive in Sanford. Limited appointments will be available each week and are open to adults ages 16 or older. Second dose vaccines will also be provided by appointment after May 11th.
The drive-thru clinics scheduled next week on April 20th and 21st will offer the first and second dose Pfizer vaccine and second dose Moderna vaccine. The Health Department continues to administer both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines; the department is not administering the Johnson and Johnson vaccine in accordance with CDC and NCDHHS guidance and recommendations.
Individuals that have not been vaccinated are strongly encouraged to participate in the vaccination clinics next week. To register for the COVID-19 vaccine, individuals may call (919) 842-5744 or to register in Spanish, (919) 718-4640 option 8. Calls will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. There is also an online pre-registration form available at leecountync.gov/covid19. Once a form is submitted, staff will be in contact to complete the registration process.
The Health Department will continue to monitor the trajectory of new cases, testing demands, and vaccination efforts in order to adjust pandemic response efforts accordingly to meet the evolving needs of the local community.
