LEE COUNTY, NC – January 5, 2021 – The Lee County Government (LCG) Health Department has limited registration for the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals defined in Phase 1B – Group 1 (individuals age 75 and older) of the North Carolina vaccine rollout plan.  The decision to scale back registration for Phase 1B to only Group 1 reflects the overwhelming response the Health Department has received on the first day of open registration for Phase 1B.

“The department expected a significant interest in the community for the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Heath Cain, Lee County Health Director, “but our staff has been overwhelmed by the volume of calls today.  As such, we knew we had to adjust our plans to better serve the community.”

The Health Department has two dedicated phone lines for vaccine registration – (919) 721-4769 and (984) 368-2112.  The lines are open Monday through Friday 8 AM – 12 PM and 1 PM – 5 PM.  Due to high call volume, individuals may need to call more than once to reach department staff that will initiate registration.

Individuals in Phase 1B – Groups 2 and 3, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 4 are not eligible to register at this time and will be asked to wait.  The Health Department will release information when registration is expanded to the next groups.

Some essential businesses have established line lists with the local health department to register their employees that are classified as essential workers for the vaccine.  Individuals who believe they are classified as essential workers are advised to check with their employer to see if a line list for their business has been established.  Individuals included on their employer’s line list do not need to call the Health Department to register for the COVID-19 vaccine.  Essential businesses that have not established line lists with the Health Department may call (919) 718-4640 ext. 5316 or 5328 to determine if they are eligible to establish a line list for the essential workers they employ.

At this time, individuals in Phase 1A and Phase 1B – Group 1 not included on an employer line list, must call the Health Department to register.  Upon reaching the registration staff, individuals will be registered in the database and given information about the next available drive-thru vaccination clinic.  If registered by the Health Department, individuals may expect to receive an email either confirming eligibility or requesting additional information.  If additional information is requested, please return the information in a timely manner; once completed, individuals will receive an email confirming eligibility.  Once eligibility is confirmed, the individual may participate in the scheduled vaccination clinic they were informed about when initially calling the Health Department.  If an individual did not receive information of the next clinic during their registration call, they will be contacted by the Health Department once the next available vaccination clinic is scheduled.

The Health Department will continue to provide weekly updates on the status of vaccine availability in Lee County as new information becomes available.
