BOARD OF ELECTIONS CONFIRMS PHOTO ID NOT REQUIRED FOR PRIMARY ELECTION

LEE COUNTY, NC – January 9, 2020 – The Lee County Board of Elections has confirmed that photo identification (id) is not required to vote in the primary election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

The implementation of voter photo ID requirements was suspended on December 31, 2019 when a federal court issued an order and preliminary injunction that prohibits the North Carolina and county boards of elections from implementing the new voter-ID requirements until otherwise directed by the court.

As a result of the court order, the State Board of Elections has directed county boards to stop issuing new voter-ID cards until the court lifts the injunction or provides further instruction.  Therefore, the Lee County Board of Elections will not issue new voter-ID cards until further notice.

For questions related to the March 3, 2020 primary election, please contact the Lee County Board of Elections at (919) 718-4646.
