October 4, 2019 – Lee County Government (LCG) Parks and Recreation held a dedication for Lett Family Park in Broadway, NC at 10 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Members of the Lee County Board of Commissioners, Broadway Town Council and Lett Family attended and spoke about the importance of the park to the Broadway community.
“This park holds a lot of memories for the families in Broadway,” said Broadway Mayor Donald Andrews, “and we’re appreciative of the county’s commitment and investment in maintaining and enhancing the park for future generations.”
Board Chair Amy Dalrymple said, “Having grown-up in Broadway, I know what this park has meant to the community and I’m thrilled that Lett Family Park will continue to be a community gathering space, athletic field and playground for the youth and families that live in and visit Broadway.”
Since acquiring the property in March 2018 from the Broadway Optimist Club, the county has made several improvements to Lett Family Park. Significant enhancements have been made at the park community center that is now home to the LCG Parks and Recreation Tiny Tots program. The community center also includes a large meeting room and separate kitchen area that is available to rent for private events. The baseball fields and concession facility have also received updates and the county recently installed a new playground with ADA accessible equipment for the public to enjoy.
Tony Lett spoke on behalf of his family and said, “We are so pleased to see the work of the county to revitalize the park and see it used by the community in the way it was intended when Gilbert Lett donated this land to the Broadway Optimist Club. The Club had a wonderful history with the park and we look forward to the future of the property as part of the Lee County Parks family.”
