LIBRARY SERVICES “FOOD FOR THOUGHT” PROGRAM Lee County Senior Services and the Lee County Library have teamed up to offer the “Food for Thought” program to Lee County citizens who are homebound, residing in a domiciliary care home, receiving dialysis treatments on a regular basis, or participating in the Diners Club program. Books, audiotapes, DVDs, CDs, videos and magazines may be requested through Senior Services or the library and the materials will be delivered directly to the citizen via a volunteer or COLTS van driver. The goal of the program is to enhance cognitive and memory abilities for extended health and wellness, especially to older adults. Registration for the Food for Thought program is required. INTERLIBRARY LOAN Have you ever wanted to read a book that the local library did not own? Interlibrary loan is a program where libraries can borrow books from other libraries for patrons. For example, this is a great way to read books by your favorite author that our library does not have. Materials not available via interlibrary loan are new books published within the past year, audio books, videos, and reference books. There is a charge of $2.00 per book for this service to defer postage and handling. Information needed to place an order is the title and author of the book, along with the patron’s name and contact telephone number and/or email address. (see interlibrary loan form) Call 774-6045, ext. 205 if you wish to make a request over the phone. You can also email your requests to the interlibrary loan department at mike.williams@leecountync.gov. STATE LIBRARY VIDEOS VIA INTERLIBRARY LOAN The State Library of North Carolina located in Raleigh will loan videos from their collection via interlibrary loan through our library. They have a large collection of instructional, educational, and business related videos. There is a $2.50 charge per video for this service to cover our postage costs. You can search their video collection online from the link to the State Catalog on their “Video Services” page. (http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/rsb/videoservices.htm ) (Limit search to “videorecording” on the Basic Search screen). You will need to provide the title and call number of the video you want to complete your interlibrary loan request. The maximum loan period is ten days. WEB LINKS There is a vast amount of information available on the Internet about many subjects. Portal pages are web pages that provide links to suggested web pages, and many libraries and organizations have excellent portal pages linking to selected Internet sites. The WEB LINKS page provides links to many of the local portal pages done by libraries in North Carolina, along with selected portal pages from other sources. Suggestions can be emailed to Mike Williams at mike.williams@leecountync.gov. NCLIVE NCLIVE is a collection of Internet databases that provides access from home via the Internet to full text magazines, newspapers and other types of information. You will need the library’s password to log on to this database site. Please call the library at (919) 774-6045, and we will be pleased to give you the latest password.
