Endor Iron Furnace

The Endor Iron Furnace near the community of Cumnock, NC (near Sanford in Lee County) was in use from the early 1860's until 1874 and was a pig iron furnace. This structure is one of the oldest and most significant extant structures in Lee County. Purchased in 2001 by the Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC), the ownership of the furnace and a 426-acre surrounding property were transferred to the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources but remain managed by TLC with considerable support from the Railroad House Historical Association and other local interests. The site will be developed as a nature preserve and park, and the furnace may be eventually restored.
